Be Sweet to Your Prospects

We could all use a little more sweetness in our days. I know your clients and customers certainly could. With patriotic feelings in full swing during the summer months (think Memorial Day and the Fourth of July) doesn't it just make sense to have a bowl of M&Ms American Flag Theme Packs available at the front desk for visitors? Why not have these tiny packs at your next event table, convention, seminar or workshop? You can include them in giveaway bags, too. Attach them to appointment reminder cards for patients. Include them with a business card to a potential new client. Leave several packs behind as you say your goodbyes at an appointment. You should be memorable with your presentations to clients and partners. Have poise, speak clearly, look people in the eye, have a firm handshake, and always return messages promptly. But sometimes a little something extra ensures that your message is committed to memory. Leave something small behind to remind them -- like these M&Ms -- to call or email YOU the next time they need your product or service.

Become an Icon

What's in a name? If you need to ask yourself this question, think about the following: Kleenex, McDonald's, "Let's Move," and the American Cancer Society. You could be any place on the planet and see a box of Kleenex or a McDonald's sign and you immediately know what those words mean. Imagine if your business name was as recognizable. What would you do to get your business into the mindset of the masses? Good marketing campaigns use giveaways to get people to open your company's front door. Whether you are a restaurant, a law office, a printer, a daycare center, a tax professional, a mattress store, or any other business out there, utilize advertising and marketing to give your name instant recognition. Now, choose a giveaway -- the Barcelona pen is a good one -- and every time someone uses your services or buys your product, present them with it. The next time you go to a networking event, give these pens to everyone that you speak with. Dole them out to people you meet who are interested in your business but might be on the fence about trying your company because they already have a similar service or product that they use. Simple tools can be the push people need to connect with your business.

On a Budget But Still Catching Everyone's Eye

What name do you see every morning? I mean, what name is on that coffee cup that you reach for when you sit down at your desk at 8:00 AM? Is it your company's name? If it isn't, it darn well should be. Every employee in your company -- whether yours is a small office of five workers or a corporate headquarters with 1,000 -- should have that white budget mug on their desks or prominently displayed on a shelf. Why, you ask? Something as simple and universal in the American business like a coffee mug can and should be a marketing message all its own. Why not use this symbol of the American pick me up to bring your business front and center? And when I say every employee should have one of these mugs out in the open, I mean it. A message is more effective when it's repeated. Seeing it everywhere one goes helps ensure that it stays in the mind. And you want that sort of mindset from your employees just as you do for your customers. Here's another tidbit. Every person who walks through your door should receive one of these mugs. No questions asked. No business needs to be conducted. But again, a simple message on a simple mug keeps your business in the minds of everyone around you.
