Do I Need an Umbrella? I'll Ask My Weather Station!

The weather is something I really never gave much thought to, except to turn on the news via radio or TV to find out how I needed to dress for the day – umbrellas, anyone? But my 8-year-old son recently became very interested in the weather and meteorology. In fact, he watches the Weather Channel more in one week than I have in my entire lifetime because he’s so intrigued by tornadoes, fast moving storms, various fronts, and hurricanes. For Christmas, Santa Claus brought him a wireless weather station. The station’s base is conveniently kept in the kitchen while the thermometer is posted beneath our deck, away from the harsh elements of sun, rain, and snow. Now, we are constantly aware of the temperatures both inside and out, the barometer, and how we need to dress for the day. While this nifty gadget was a gift for my son, I find myself consulting it daily to see what the heavens will bring. So far, the weather station hasn’t failed us. When it displays rain, we know a shower is due in. It’s almost magical to us non-scientific persons, but I suppose meteorologists are magicians in a sense anyway. Most of their work is based on prediction.

Don't Supersize Me, Just Sanitize Me

I’ve sung the praises of hand sanitizer in the past via this blog, but I don’t think I’ve really appreciated its benefits and convenience fully. That is, until yesterday. I was at a Nascar race and realized that I had no other alternative but to use a Port-a-Potty. Anyone who knows me would instantly realize that I was suffering greatly and that this was really an emergency if I had to stoop to a gross outhouse. Plus, there is no option for hand washing – and I’m all about soap and water and a clean hand towel. But luckily, I remembered my hand sanitizer wipes and hand sanitizer gel – both of which came in extremely handy. Each time our group finished using the “facilities,” I whipped out my sanitizers and doled out the goods to everyone. As a mom, I’m a fan of keeping germs at bay. As a woman who considers no air conditioning “roughing it,” I’m not a fan of outdoor toilets. And as someone who just wanted to enjoy a great race with her loved ones, I’m a huge fan of sanitizing products. With Gimmees and the vast options in hand cleaning, you can take a victory lap on any given day!

Medicine Cabinet Must-Haves

There have been many times when I’ve seen a promotional item or gadget and smacked my head thinking, “I sure wish I’d thought of that!” Here’s a great example – recently, I went to fill a prescription for my son who had a vicious ear infection. The pharmacy tech handed me the medication, which came in a liquid, along with a handy medicine spoon. “Just so you can measure out the right amount easily,” she explained. I can’t even begin to tell you how wonderful this little spoon is! I pour out the medicine and it clearly shows me the right amount. And there are similar items out there that I have since discovered I need to keep in my medicine cabinet: the Take ‘N Go medicine spoon for when we hit the road for vacation or a weekend getaway and the forehead thermometer kit to take a temperature easily at any time of day or night. The really great thing about these items is that adults can use them, too. Plus, they pack up nicely in a travel kit. I recommend all health companies consider giving out these promotional items – they are inexpensive yet could be a lifesaver for a parent.

This Little Light of Mine.... I'm Sure as Heck Gonna Make it Shine

A gadget that everyone should have is the solar safety key light. It’s compact, discreet, inexpensive, and yet could end up saving your life. Attach it to your key ring or belt loop and you can shine on even in the darkest of alleyways. Not that us here at Gimmees thinks you’re visiting alleys fairly often or anything. But the key light shines really bright in a dark parking lot – when you are pushing your shopping cart towards your car – and when you are out taking a walk long after the sun sets. You might not think you need any safety product in that parking lot or on that dimly lit street, but lighting your path up just a bit can prevent you from tripping over something in the road or keep you out of the hands of a predator. Every one of your key rings should be equipped with this little light. So, shine on, people, shine on!
